The Benefits of Grounding While You Receive Healing

The Benefits of Grounding While You Receive Healing

Recently, I had the pleasure of working with a client who chose to receive their Pranic Healing session outdoors, lying comfortably on the grass, surrounded by nature. There was something really lovely about that experience. It got me thinking about one of the things I especially appreciate about working outdoors: how naturally it invites us to ground ourselves.

We spend so much of our lives indoors, moving from one task to another, thinking about what we need to accomplish next. We’re often living in our heads, planning, worrying, analyzing, and trying to keep up with everything around us. Sometimes, what we really need is to slow down, get out of our heads, and reconnect with the simple experience of being here, in our bodies, on the earth.

And what better place to do that than outside, lying on the grass?

There’s Something Special About Grounding in Nature

Think about the last time you walked barefoot on the grass, sat beneath a tree, or stretched out on the ground and looked up at the sky. Do you remember how you felt?

For many of us, there’s a sense of settling that happens when we spend time in nature. We may breathe more easily, feel our muscles relax, or find that our thoughts aren’t racing quite so much. The natural world gives us permission to slow down. Grounding, in its simplest sense, is about feeling connected to the present moment and to our physical bodies. It’s the experience of being here rather than being carried away by thoughts about the past or future.

And when we’re outdoors, grounding can feel especially accessible. We can feel the earth beneath us, notice the temperature of the air against our skin, listen to birdsong, and feel a gentle breeze. These simple sensory experiences bring our attention away from our busy minds and back to the present. When you’re lying on the grass, you don’t have to do anything to create that connection. The ground is already there, supporting you.

There’s something wonderfully reassuring about that.

Grounding and Pranic Healing

In Pranic Healing, we work with the body’s energy field, or aura, and the chakras, helping to cleanse congested energy and replenish areas that need fresh prana. Grounding is a valuable companion to this work.

When we’re stressed, distracted, or emotionally overwhelmed, we can feel scattered. Our attention may be everywhere except where we actually are. We might feel disconnected from our bodies, caught up in our thoughts, or simply unable to settle. Taking time to ground ourselves can help us feel more centered and present.

From an energetic perspective, I find it useful to think of grounding as creating a sense of stability and connection. Rather than feeling scattered or pulled in a dozen different directions, we have an opportunity to settle into ourselves. Being outdoors can support this experience in a very natural way. The physical sensation of lying on the earth, the openness of the surroundings, and the sensory connection with nature can all encourage us to become more aware of our bodies and our immediate environment.

This doesn’t mean that an outdoor Pranic Healing session is necessarily more effective than an indoor one. Rather, nature can provide a particularly supportive setting for the relaxation, presence, and receptivity that many people appreciate during a healing session. And when we feel settled and comfortable, we may find it easier to let go and receive.

The Earth Beneath Us, the Sky Above Us

One of my favorite things about being outdoors is the combination of feeling grounded and experiencing a sense of expansiveness. Think about it: the earth is beneath you, steady and supportive, while the sky stretches out above you. You can feel connected to the ground without feeling confined by walls or ceilings. There’s a beautiful balance in that experience.

In Pranic Healing, we pay attention to the condition of the energy field and the flow of prana. When I think about working with a client in nature, I appreciate the opportunity for them to experience both a sense of stability and a feeling of openness.

Grounding doesn’t mean feeling heavy or restricted. We can feel firmly rooted and, at the same time, relaxed, spacious, and receptive. For some people, simply lying on the grass and looking up at the sky creates a feeling of relief that is difficult to find in the middle of a busy day.

It’s a reminder that we don’t have to hold everything together all the time. We can allow ourselves to be supported.

Letting Go of the Busy Mind

Another benefit of an outdoor session is the way nature can help us shift our attention away from everyday concerns. Inside our homes or offices, we’re surrounded by reminders of things to do. There’s the computer, the phone, the laundry, the paperwork, and all the little responsibilities that seem to call for our attention. Outside, especially in a peaceful natural setting, those reminders can recede into the background.

We may still have the same worries and responsibilities, of course. But for a little while, we can give ourselves permission not to focus on them. We can listen to the wind moving through the trees, feel the warmth of the sun, or notice the sensation of the ground beneath us.

Even separating from the energy of our phones for the duration of a session can help us become more present. And that shift in attention can be surprisingly meaningful. When we stop trying so hard to manage everything around us, we create room to notice what’s happening within us.

Nature as a Partner in the Healing Experience

What I loved about this recent session was the simplicity of it. A client, lying comfortably on the grass. The natural surroundings. The opportunity to step away from the usual distractions and spend some time receiving healing.

It reminded me that we don’t always need to create the perfect environment with special equipment, elaborate preparations, or carefully arranged surroundings. Sometimes, we can find what we need in the simplest of places. Nature offers us the opportunity to slow down, reconnect with our bodies, and experience a sense of grounding that can be harder to access when we’re constantly moving from one thing to another.

For me, that makes an outdoor Pranic Healing session a lovely option whenever the setting is appropriate and the client feels comfortable. Of course, indoor sessions can be just as valuable. We also need to consider privacy, weather, temperature, allergies, accessibility, and the client’s personal preferences. Grounding doesn’t require us to lie directly on the earth, either. We can cultivate a sense of connection with our bodies and the present moment wherever we are. But when the opportunity presents itself, there’s something special about taking our healing practice outside.

The earth beneath us. The sky above us. A little fresh air, a little quiet, and permission to stop doing and simply be.

Perhaps that’s one of the gifts nature offers us: a reminder that we can feel both grounded and expansive, both supported and open to new possibilities. And sometimes, the best thing we can do for ourselves is to lie back, feel the earth beneath us, and let ourselves receive.

Have you ever experienced a healing session or meditation outdoors? I’d love to hear how being in nature affected your experience.
