So, in addition to the energy fields that we know are already surrounding the body (particularly the heart and brain), consider that the physical body is also surrounded by a number of other subtle energy fields, collectively know as:
" Life force energy field "
Here's some information about this "invisible energy" to help you understand why Traditional Chinese Medicine has been working with this paradigm for the last 3000 - 5000 years, and why it is the primary focus of this energy healing work.
Our Energetic Anatomy
- Vital Energy or life force: Vital energy is the same energy that acupuncturists use needles to influence. It is the energy which keeps the body alive and healthy. This energy is universal and multi-cultural. In Sanskrit, it is called prana, in Greek, it is called pneuma, in Polynesian, mana. It is called ki in Japanese, chi in Chinese, and Ruach or the Breath of Life in Hebrew. This energy is also found in the sun, the air, the earth, food, herbs, and even medicine. The physical body and the “energy body” are so intimately connected and related that what affects one, affects the other and vice versa. If there is something wrong physically, it also manifests on the energy field.

- Aura: The aura is the energy field which interpenetrates, surrounds, contains and protects the physical body, much in the same way that the earth's atmosphere surrounds, contains and protects the planet. Just as the the earth's atmosphere is degraded by air pollution and suffers from issues like the Ozone Hole, the auric field can accumulate toxins and need energetic repairs and balancing. The aura has been photographed using Kirlian photography.

- Meridians: Meridians (or nadis) are the energy channels that run in the energy body much like blood vessels run in the physical body. They are the energy highway system, and are essential for the proper and balanced distribution of life force throughout the energy field. The existence of the meridians has been the subject of scientific research, which has verified their pathways exactly as described by the ancient Chinese texts.
- Chakras: A chakra is a spinning vortex, and is a center of energy intake and expulsion, in which the aura receives and exchanges energy with the outside world. Each chakra is responsible for energizing certain vital organs and glands. The function of the chakra is analogous to the lungs exchanging fresh oxygen and releasing waste products such as carbon dioxide. The projection of energy from the chakras in a healer's hands has been studied and verified by using new technology, such as the "SQUID magnetometer." The frequency of energy was comparable to that emitted from a PEMS device.

These concepts of subtle energy of the physical body are not new. In fact, they are very very old. The Chinese have been using this model of healing for upwards of 5000 years. Western medicine, on the other hand, has not embraced this model yet. As we review the history of Western Medicine (and western culture for that matter) we see the pattern of one paradigm shift after another, usually based on the development of technology, as new information comes in to replace the old.
